Once
a brothel, this reputedly haunted pub is now a popular drinking
place for visitors and locals. Staff at the Lamp in Hadfield - now called the New Lamp - reported in the Glossop Chronicle of 11 February 1999, that the pub is haunted by a male ghost.
No-one seems entirely sure just who the mystery spirit is supposed to be, although suggestions were put forward that it could be the ghost of a navvy working nearby on the construction of the Woodhead Tunnel.
